Garry Moebs died May 15 at the age of 78 in Lake Forest, Ill. .Moebs founded financial research and consulting firm Moebs $ervices in 1983. Before establishing the company, Moebs was a bank president and COO of a 14-bank holding company. He was also director of seven banks.Moebs is credited with developing several patents and trademarks used in the international financial system. An author of 20 books, his work, “Pricing Financial Services,” is considered the standard of the industry, according to his obituary. “His deep understanding of economics and commitment to helping others navigate financial systems earned him the respect of colleagues and clients internationally,” according to the obituary. Moebs was born on Oct. 31, 1946, in Chicago. He has an undergraduate degree and CPA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also undertook graduate work at the University of Chicago, studying under Nobel Laureates Milton Friedman and George Stigler, who are both credited with creating the “Chicago School” of free market economics.
