First Bank of Berne announced $9,500 in donations to four local nonprofits in recent weeks, including: .$3,000 to Wells County Lifewise Academy for programming, materials and transportation for students. $2,500 to Wells County Trails to install a paddlesports launch on the northwest side of a bridge in Vera Cruz, Ind. The donation will include a concrete entry ramp to the river, a driveway, vehicle unloading area and grass parking area. $2,000 to Light Up Peru.The community group undertakes fundraisers throughout the year, with all proceeds going toward future Christmas displays as well as maintaining current ones. $2,000 to Helping Hands, which builds relationships through medical services, education and advocacy. The donation is for the organization's Bow Campaign, disc golf tournament and annual benefit dinner.
