Mary Sulser's career in banking grew out of her vocation as a mother. By the time she was 27 years old in 1983, two of Sulser's three children were in school and she was looking for work outside the home. She found a job as a teller at the Bank of St. Mary, Ill., and she liked the work immediately. "As a teller at a community bank I did a little bit of everything; I liked even the odd jobs because it was working with people," Sulser said.
