South Dakota bank volunteers rescue local economy

In June 2011, Bryant, S.D., faced a dilemma; its largest employer intended to move out of town. WW Tire, a retail shop and tire recapping company, needed to expand but the company was landlocked and had begun searching for a new location. The community feared the loss of 23 jobs and more than $800,000 in payroll each year. The community also feared the loss of 25 percent of its sales tax revenue. The town of 380 people had small hope of weathering the impending shock to its economy.
