First Bank of Berne, Ind., joined with a local real estate company to contribute $10,000 to the Adams County Council on Aging in nearby Decatur..The council focuses on healthful aging and independent living throughout the county. It is raising funds to renovate an outdoor space at Decatur's MERIT Center. The memorial garden is envisioned as "a vibrant space where seniors can gather, relax, and enjoy a variety of activities. Plans for the completed garden include a shuffleboard court, a covered patio and gazebo, a water feature, and several wheelchair-accessible raised garden beds for planting flowers and vegetables," according to First Bank of Berne, which also contributed funds last year.
