Warsh remains hawkish on inflation while citing resilience in banking and the economy

In his first Jackson Hole address as Federal Reserve Chairman, Kevin Warsh noted resilience in the U.S. economy while reinforcing the central bank’s resolve to remain focused on reducing inflation..Describing overall economic output as solid and the labor market as stable with a low unemployment rate, Warsh also noted that underlying inflation trends have not sufficiently improved. He signaled the Fed will maintain current monetary policy and avoid easing until inflation moves toward the 2% target "clearly and at sufficient speed."To justify this stance, he pointed to details in the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) index, where half of the goods and services tracked are still experiencing annualized price increases above 3%.Noting resilience in the broad economy, driven in part by the artificial intelligence infrastructure boom, Warsh also acknowledged that sectors like housing and agriculture are showing strains.
